Who was Stefan Octavian Iosif?

Ștefan Octavian Iosif (1875 – 1913) was a Romanian poet and translator, founding member of the Society of Romanian Writers.

The originality of Iosif’s poetry consists in a lyricism of nature with social notes. The poet is a melancholic who gladly allows himself to be convinced that life must be lived. His translations are exceptional. By his own admission, he taught himself English in order to translate Shakespeare’s work.
